Shabbos and Yom Tov after divorce
The first Shabbos when the children are not with you can feel very long. Even when they are with you, the new arrangement can be hard.
Plan for the Shabbos that is coming
Ask early where you will eat, who you will be with, when the children are coming, and how the travel will work. If you are alone, look for a place where you do not have to explain too much. A clear plan does not remove the pain, but it makes the day less uncertain.
A Shabbos table is not an exam
You do not have to look as if everything is fine. You can come for one meal, sit at the edge of the table, or tell a host that you do not want to discuss the divorce right now. A good host makes room without making a scene.
When the children are with you
Make your time together calm and ordinary — a meal, a game, a walk, a story before bed. Children do not need your private conflict, and they should not have to carry a message back.
Questions of halachah and arrangements
For questions about halachah, parenting arrangements, safety, or legal responsibility, ask an appropriate rabbi, professional, or attorney who can understand your case. A forum can share experience; it cannot decide for you.
