Loneliness and starting over

Some days go by and nobody asks how you are doing. That does not make you weak. It means you are living through a hard new reality.

The quiet after the children leave

When the children go back and the apartment becomes quiet, it can feel as if you no longer have a place in the day. Make a small plan for the afternoon: a friend, a walk, a shiur, a meal. Not to run away from the feeling — just not to let the quiet run the whole day.

Build a routine that holds you

Sleep, food, work, davening, movement, and one person to call — ordinary things matter when everything feels upside down. Choose one regular practice you can keep, not ten new promises to yourself.

Step back into people’s lives

You do not have to attend a community gathering and tell your whole story. Coffee with someone who understands, a seat at a Shabbos table, or one conversation on Gurish can be a first step.

When it becomes too heavy

If sadness, anger, sleep problems, or hopelessness continue and take away your ability to function, speak with a qualified professional. If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
